China Art & Design Feature

China Art & Design magazine, apparently one of the most read art publications in China, has just done a feature on me and my work. The issue focuses on UK artists and to be honest I was a little surprised to be chosen as one of them! I haven’t seen the rest of the issue yet, and don’t have much of a clue what the article says, but you can get a sneak peak below and in my tearsheet section on the website.

Colors Feature

Late in December, soon after arriving in South Africa, I visited some very remote San-koh communities in the North Eastern provence to do a story for Colors magazine and their happiness issue. I was investigating the use of a plant called ‘Kana’ which has been used by both the San people and Koyi-san groups for decades as a natural anti-depressant.

You can see the final tearsheet on my website, but below I have included some rough scans from the contact sheets. I’m yet to do my own scans and as soon I do I will put the story up in my assignments section and let y’all know.

Cardiff Art Book Fair

The great folk at ‘A Book Show’ took Cairo Divided to the Cardiff Art Book Fair recently. You can read about the event here. They will also soon be featuring the publication in an online shop. But stocks of the publication are running very low. We now only have 300 copies left from the 5000 we printed in November, which is unbelievable!

The publication has had an amazing life since it’s launch with copies being sent all over the world including distribution with in the corridors of the EU in Brussles, over 20 universities and institutions, 25 galleries and book shops, 4 festivals and over 700 individual online orders.

I need to do a huge shout out to Katie Higson who has been so instrumental in the production and distribution of publication. If you need any help with upcoming projects/shoots/research, reach out to her, she’s brilliant.

Was pleased that the Cairo Divided publication was exhibited as part of the A Book Show in Brighton last December. There was some great self published books on show including publications by Simon Norfolk and Misha De Ridder. You can watch a virtual flick through the publication here.

**Update** Just been told that Cairo Divided will be featured in both upcoming Cardiff and London Photo Book shows! Will provide more details of these when they are released.

Cairo Divided publication

For the last couple of months I’ve been busy turning the Cairo Divided story into a 32 page newspaper print publication, and finally it’s been printed and delivered, and I’m really chuffed with the results! The free publication combines 30 of my images from the series, and a 6000 word essay by Jack Shenker. Cairo Divided is also a dual language publication as all text has been translated into arabic.

It’s beautifully art directed and designed by James at Realise Creative, as well as help from Harry Hardie (Panos & Here) and Francesca Sears (Panos) as well as lots of other people along the way.

There is a dedicated website where you can find out more information on the publication and order your free copy anywhere in the world (+p&p) which was designed and built by Mark Dearman.

Spectrum

An image from the Mistake of Nature project which I donated to Photo Voice’s photography auction was used in The Sunday Times Spectrum section last weekend.

The charity auction is being held on the 22nd of October and features work from the likes of Simon Norfolk, Stephen Gill and Brian Griffins to name just a few. Should be a fun night for a great charity.
